Declan immediately after passing his Foundation Exam 26th May, 2017
Declan 2W0KYH (MW6SZL)
Hello, I am 2W0KYH, Declan. I gained my Foundation License (8th June 2017) at the age of 9 years old.
A MASSIVE thank you to Ross GW3NWS and Richie MW0LGE for helping me to pass the Foundation Exam.
It all started when I joined in January 2017 when I was chilling, but then it got intense. In February and early March, I was undergoing revision and took mock exams ready for the real thing. In late March 2017, I took the 1st try to succeed, when I was 8. If I had passed it in March, I would have made a great success as being just 8 when passing, but I failed. I needed 19 and I got 17. There were 26 questions. But I did NOT give up. I went for more mock exams and revision, to then retry and pass the exam on 26th May 2017. The score was 21/26. Then I recieved the license on 8th June 2017, after an amazing holiday in Benalmadena, Spain. I was tired, but happy. And that brings me to the present day.
Radio has been a passion of mine now since I was 9, and I am currently 12 years of age, so it pleasures me to have finally moved up to an Intermediate. (same level as a General for anyone in the US).
I passed the Intermediate exam on the 31st of July 2020 online, and got this callsign on the 4th of August 2020. For anyone wondering, I passed with a score of 33 out of 46.
I am a member of the South Coast Amateur Radio Service (or SCARS for short), the Young Amateur Communications Ham Team (or YACHT for short), the Newport Amateur Radio Society (or NARS for short, and I also go to their radio club), and the Radio Society of Great Britain (or RSGB for short).
I also run the *WALES* EchoLink Conference Server. With the Intermediate license, I now have 2W0KYH-L, and AllStar node 52284.
I look forward to having a QSO with you all on the air soon.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope you have learnt a bit about me.
From Declan MW6SZL/2W0KYH, the Kind Young Ham.

My name is Dave and i live here in Newport, South Wales, United Kingdom with Sue my XYL and my son Declan aged 12 who has just updated his license to Intermediate Class. He is now the proud holder of the call sign 2W0KYH (Kind Young Ham). His previous call sign was MW6SZL which he obtained when he was 9 years old.
I am active on all bands but currently enjoying mainly the Digital Modes.
I have recently delved into DMR, Fusion and D-STAR and i am currently setting up the XLX060 Reflector with Declan. It is early days yet but work is progressing nicely.
I can usually be found on D-STAR on XLX060 Module D or the WALES DMR TALKGROUP on Brandmeister which is TG 2356 so please give me a call if you are passing through.
Myself and Declan also have the *WALES* EchoLink Conference Server and everybody is welcome to connect and say Hi! The *WALES* Conference also has an AllStar Gateway which is AllStar Node 49903.
I am a member of the Newport Amateur Radio Society and we meet every Friday evening at 1900 hrs at St Julians Community Learning Centre here in Newport.
